Maverick and Dunkin

We are Blye and Carrie Chadwick of Ft Collins, CO.  We live on 4 ½ acres with our daughters, Riley age 4 and Avery age 2.

We adopted ‘the boys’ almost 3 years ago from Longhopes, and everyone seems happy.  Maverick and Dunkin are the only animals at the Chadwick home at this time.  They are the best of friends and are never apart.  They look forward to grooming, feeding time, scouting and hunting season, and playing with each other in the corral, but not so much to hoof trimming time, which according to them happens too regularly.

Packing in the mountains is an activity the boys love.  Getting into nature and away from the daily prairie dog chatter of our area is refreshing, I am sure.  Saddled up panniers and loaded with gear they head up a few times a year on a hunting adventure.  Maverick is the leader and Dunkin has no trouble bringing up the rear.  Tied together they follow Blye anywhere.  However, last summer, crossing a shallow creek did present a challenge.  Maverick and Dunkin did not want to take the route across the running water.  Blye of course coaxed them in and after about 10 minutes of standing in the water, they understood it was OK and that they would not die.  The trip down the mountain was more fun than up.

Riley rides on Maverick, he thinks it is OK, as he knows carrots as a treat usually follow.  We look forward to more hiking and camping this season with them.

We love living with Maverick and Dunkin.
We have learned a lot since the first visit to Longhopes.
We look forward to them growing old with us.
After our girls leave us for college they will still be “our boys” at home.
